Maidstone Winds Returns- Ring in the New!
Maidstone Wind Symphony are returning together under the baton of Roger Graham for our winter concert, Ring in the New! on the 11th December 2021, 7.30pm at the stunning All Saint’s Church.
For this concert we have chosen a variety of music, both recognisable Christmas tunes and exciting new music that reflects the season. The theme for the concert is bells and each piece contains or alludes to the wonderful chimes and rings of bells.
Ring in the New! will be our first concert under the baton of Roger Graham, our new music director. Here is what he has to say about two of the pieces in our programme:
Winter Dances - Fergal Carroll
Winter Dances was commissioned to mark the opening of The Pyramid, Warrington’s purpose-built arts venue. It was written to allow performance with dancers and in order to accommodate this each of the three movements has its distinct character. The movements are titled November, December and January (as the composer’s home country of Ireland uses the Celtic calendar rise are its winter months.
The Proclamation of Christmas
Originally written as the show opener for one of the Salvation Army’s spectacular a haul Christmas Carol concerts in London and premiered by The International Staff Band, this work is an extended work that features a number of popular Christmas tunes including Hark! the Herald Angels Sing, Ding Dong Merrily on High and The First Nowell. The piece concludes with a final flourish from O Come, All Ye Faithful.
We will once again be happily supporting Time for the Homeless, an incredible charity that supports the homeless of Maidstone and holds a soup kitchen outside All Saints Church. Like our previous Christmas concert we will be collecting shoebox donations (more information to follow) and monetary donations for this brilliant charity. We sincerely thank all who are able to take part.
For this concert there will be no paper programmes, instead we will trial a QR code scanning method at the venue as well as emailing the programme to those who have bought tickets online. This is due to COVID safety and the environmental impact of printing lots of programmes.
